Louis Vuitton Antique Steamer Trunk 1920's - 1930's

An incredible piece of Louis Vuitton history now available at Designer Exchange.

This Steamer trunk dates to the 1920's and possibly the early 1930's based on the provenance attached to the original owner, being the Maharaja Of Alwar, Jai Singh, the 7th Maharaja Of Alwar. He ruled from 1892 to 1937 and was a luxury goods fanatic. This trunk was purchased by the Maharaja to store the travelling neccessities of his private secretary.

The trunk itself is in "Fair" condition, noting its age and its obvious amount of usage over the last 100 years. It exudes all the desired pattina of a trunk of its age and would look fantastic as a home furnishing, possibly protected with a perspex or glass top to serve as a coffee table. This trunk has been left untouched by Designer Exchange and no restoration has been performed. The personalised sign writing was recently refreshed by an expert sign writer.

The trunk shows the hand drawn Louis Vuitton logo throughout, which was a major feature of the time. The serial number is intact on the interior and reads as "210375". The Louis Vuitton label is present, albeit slight torn. It is missing its keys and interior tray, opening to a large interior compartment with a boucle effect panel under the lid. The trunk has various bumps, knocks and scratches which we have endeavoured to photograph but please keep in mind that this piece is 100 years old and will show wear and stains throughout. It is a piece of history to be cherished for generations.

The rear and right hand side handles are present and the leather shows obvious ageing. The front and left hand side handle/straps are missing.

This piece is sold in "as is" condition and it will be the purchaser's decision to restore or clean if desired. After a purchaser's inspection and payment, due to its high value, this piece will be considered "Final Sale". A certificate of authenticty will be supplied.

A comparative trunk, albeit the smaller "Cabin Trunk" was recently sold by Bonham's auction house for £43000 (Approx €50000). This cabin trunk was in "Fair" condition.
